Dear friend,
I just published the first lesson on my new YouTube channel, and I made it for anyone starting from the very beginning!
Your First Piano Lesson: C Major Scale + 4 Easy Chords
In one sitting you'll learn the C major scale and four chords: C, F, G and A minor. Those four chords sit behind an enormous number of songs, and next week's video uses them to learn one. If you downloaded the C major key study page, keep it next to you while you watch. The lesson walks through it.
♪ ♫ ♪
One thing to practice this week
Play C, then F, then G, four slow counts each, and watch your thumb. It stays on C for the first two chords, then steps up just one key to D for G. Go slower than feels necessary. Speed comes on its own once your hand knows where it's going.

Something to play this month
I made a fall version of the C major key study, and it's free: the scale, chords and arpeggios on clear keyboard diagrams, plus a page of activities to try them out.
Get the free fall key study It's on Teachers Pay Teachers, so you'll need a free account there to download it.
Ready to use those chords in a real song? My lead sheet for the hymn “I Surrender All” uses just C, F and G, with the lyrics so you can sing along. It's $2: get the lead sheet.
If you're starting later than you wanted to, you're not behind. Your hands just need reps.
Harmoniously yours,
